Joanne Brings Thunder is a dedicated cultural educator, bringing Indigenous history, art, and perspective into the classroom. With over four years of experience in the Jackson Hole, Wyoming school district, Joanne offers developed and approved curricula for grades K-6. Her hands-on workshops provide an immersive and authentic learning experience, ensuring the next generation learns the true history and significance of the land they inhabit.

Joanne has been a valued participant in the pARTners program for over four years, bringing Indigenous artists and storytellers into Teton County classrooms at Jackson, Wilson, Colter, and Munger Mountain elementary schools.

Hands-On Curricula

• Offerings:

  1. Ledger Art Workshops: Learn the history of storytelling through art and create using traditional techniques.

  2. Beadwork Instruction: Hands-on instruction in traditional Northern Plains beading techniques.

  3. Tipi/Lodge Construction & Decoration: Explore the engineering and cultural significance of Shoshone lodges. Students build and decorate their own models.

  4. Parfleche & Medicine Pouch Construction: Create traditional carrying containers while learning about their use and history.

  5. Shoshone Tradition & Culture: Lessons on Shoshone history, family patterns, colors as markers of identity, and the traditional matriarchal roles within the culture.
